Fresh Ginger Lemonade — Made With Farm-Grown Ginger

Written by the family at 'Tween Towns Farm · Oxford, NC · Granville County

---

On a hot Saturday morning at the Carrboro Farmers' Market, nothing sells itself like a cold glass of ginger lemonade. We have been making it with our own ginger from Granville County for years, and the difference between this and anything made with dried ginger or ginger powder is immediately obvious. Fresh ginger has a brightness and a clean heat that makes lemonade come alive.

This recipe uses our ginger syrup as the base — if you have not made it yet, the recipe is on this blog. Once you have the syrup, the lemonade comes together in minutes.

What You Will Need (serves 4–6)

| Ingredient | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh lemon juice | 1 cup | About 6–8 lemons |
| Ginger syrup | ½ cup | See our Ginger Syrup recipe |
| Cold water or sparkling water | 4 cups | Sparkling makes it more festive |
| Ice | As needed | |
| Lemon slices and fresh mint | For garnish | Optional |

---

Instructions

Step 1 — Juice the lemons. Roll the lemons firmly on the counter before cutting — this releases more juice. Squeeze and strain out any seeds.

Step 2 — Combine. In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice, ginger syrup, and water. Stir well. Taste and adjust — add more syrup for sweetness, more lemon for tartness.

Step 3 — Serve. Pour over ice. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint. For a sparkling version, use cold sparkling water and add it just before serving.

---

Variations

Ginger Mint Lemonade — muddle 6–8 fresh mint leaves in the pitcher before adding the other ingredients. Ginger Strawberry Lemonade — blend 1 cup fresh strawberries and strain into the pitcher. Ginger Arnold Palmer — mix half ginger lemonade with half unsweetened iced tea. Ginger Lemonade Cocktail — add 2 oz vodka or gin per glass.
