The preserves we sell at the Carrboro Farmers' Market are not a side product. They are the result of decades of growing the right fruit and learning how to put it up properly — a skill that takes years to develop and that our family has been refining since we started farming these 40 acres in Oxford, North Carolina in 1987.
Every jar starts with fruit from our own trees and bushes. Our blueberry preserves are made from blueberries we pick ourselves in Granville County. Our sour cherry preserves come from our own cherry trees. Our fig preserves, pear preserves, and plum preserves are all made from fruit grown right here on the farm. We do not buy fruit from a wholesaler and we do not use artificial pectin, artificial color, or preservatives beyond the natural chemistry of sugar and heat.
Why small-batch matters
Commercial preserves are made in large batches optimized for consistency and shelf stability. We make ours in small batches, which means we can adjust for the fruit we have that week — a particularly sweet blueberry harvest needs less sugar; a tart cherry crop needs more. The result is a jar that reflects the actual fruit, not a standardized formula.
Our award-winning line
Our preserves have won recognition at competition, and our customers at the Carrboro Farmers' Market have been buying them for years. The most popular are our blueberry preserves, sour cherry preserves, and hot pepper jelly — a bright, sweet-heat condiment made from the hot peppers we grow in our garden. It is excellent on cream cheese, alongside grilled meat, or stirred into a vinaigrette.
The full lineup
We bring blueberry preserves, pear preserves, plum preserves, sour cherry preserves, fig preserves, hot pepper jelly, and seasonal specialties to the market throughout the year. Availability depends on the harvest — some jars sell out quickly.
