Hot Peppers, Lemongrass, and the Garden We've Built Over 40 Years

June 8, 2026

Our garden at 'Tween Towns Farm in Oxford, NC grows more than vegetables. Hot peppers, lemongrass, cut flowers, and plant starts are all part of what we bring to the Carrboro Farmers' Market on Saturdays.

The garden section of our farm in Oxford, North Carolina has evolved considerably over the 40 years we have been working this land in Granville County. What started as a practical vegetable plot has grown into one of the most diverse parts of what we do — a place where we grow hot peppers for our award-winning hot pepper jelly, lemongrass for customers who cook Southeast Asian food at home, cut flowers for the Saturday market, and plant starts for gardeners who want to grow their own.

Hot peppers

We grow a range of hot pepper varieties, from mild to genuinely fiery. Most of our pepper harvest goes into our hot pepper jelly, which has become one of our most popular preserved products at the Carrboro Farmers' Market. We also bring fresh hot peppers to the market when the harvest allows — dried hot peppers are available as a seasonal specialty.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass is not a traditional North Carolina garden crop, but it grows remarkably well in Granville County's warm summers. We grow it in large clumps that we divide and sell as starts, and we bring fresh-cut stalks to the market for customers who use it in Thai curries, soups, and teas. Fresh lemongrass has a brightness and fragrance that the dried version cannot replicate.

Cut flowers

We bring seasonal cut flowers to the Carrboro Farmers' Market when they are in bloom. These are grown without chemicals, like everything else on the farm, and they are cut fresh the morning of the market.

Plant starts

For customers who want to grow their own, we sell robust starts of hot peppers, lemongrass, and our specialty rhizomes — ginger, turmeric, and galangal. These are well-rooted plants raised right here on the farm, ready to go into your garden or a container on your porch.
